GENERAL
How do I decide which type of fence to purchase?
First, determine the purpose of the fence. Do you want to contain your children and pets, or keep unwanted neighbors and animals out of your yard? Do you want to create privacy, or create a safe enclosure around your swimming pool?
Fences come in many different materials and styles. Our website offers you a sample of the many options that are available. Our professional experts can be reached via phone and email, and can help you in choosing the best fence for your circumstances.
What is the best swimming pool fence?
Many fences may work, but the top industry and customer choice is maintenance-free aluminum fence.
They are designed for beauty, style, and strength, while making your pool much safer with their picket and rail spacing and self-closing gates. Aluminum fence is the right fence for many applications, such as pets and children. Aluminum fence can be used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings

What types of warranties and guarantees are available?
We offer a 2-year warranty on labor and a lifetime material guarantee on aluminum and vinyl fencing.
Warranties on materials vary. This is an important consideration when determining the type of fence you would like to purchase. Depending on materials, terms can range from no warranty on products like wood fencing, to lifetime warranties on maintenance-free products, such as on aluminum and vinyl fences.
The lumber we use for our wood products is of top grade cedar materials. However, lumber is a product of nature and therefore, we cannot be responsible for the natural seasoning of the lumber, which may include some warping, cracking, and shrinkage. This is a natural part of the lumber's drying process.
Many factors affect the life of a fence, such as local climate, soil conditions, proper installation, wear and tear, and proper maintenance. Warranties and guarantees are only as good as the company giving them. We have been keeping our word, backing our products, and honoring our guarantees since 1992!
Can I get a price estimate over the phone?
We don't recommend it. Most companies that give prices over the phone to construct a fence significantly under-price their quote in order to get you "on the hook". Once you commit to the project, the amount required usually goes up. And, if the fence is partially constructed, you are left with little alternative except to pay the higher revised price. Our prices are not quotes, but commitments. Unless you change the size and/or scope of work to be performed, the price given to you is good for 60 days and will not change.
How do I get a free price quote?
Feel free to call our office at 203-602-3348 and set up an appointment for a sales representative to visit you at your home and give you a free quote. Or you can fill out our online form.
Do you sell material to the general public?
Yes. Riverside Fence sells fencing materials to the public. Feel free to contact us to get free quote on your next fencing project. We retail materials for every type of fence we install.
FENCE MATERIALS
What are the advantages of maintenance-free fences over conventional fences?
Maintenance free aluminum fences and P.V.C. Vinyl fences have more benefits than the fact that they are basically free of maintenance.
- They typically outlast and out perform most other types of fences.
- Never needs painting or staining.
- Highly weather resistant (will not chip, fade or rot).
- Time and money savings on maintenance and repair.
- Environmentally friendly.
- Can enhance you property value.
Years after installing aluminum fences or vinyl fences they still look as good as when originally installed, and can help on resale value of your home.
How does the price of vinyl compare to that of wood?
The price of vinyl compares favorably with wood. Through the years, the cost to maintain a wood fence adds up. Vinyl is virtually maintenance-free, so you won't spend time and money painting, or staining, a vinyl fence.
What kind of care and maintenance does vinyl require?
Vinyl is virtually maintenance-free. There's no need to scrape, paint, or stain a vinyl fence. Pressure washing with a mild detergent and water should keep your vinyl fence looking new. For stubborn stains, use a non-abrasive cleanser and a soft-bristled brush.
Will vinyl fencing yellow over time?
Our vinyl components use a high content of titanium dioxide and ultraviolet inhibitors, which have been proven to prevent yellowing.
Is cedar the most durable wood product for fences?
Cedar is the long-standing traditional material for all types of fence. The benefits of wood are the strength of the fence and the natural aesthetic look in rural settings. Since wood is a natural product, it blends well into its surroundings.
Cedar is naturally resistant to rotting and decay, and therefore requires no chemical treatment. Only cedar wood has the distinct aging quality of weathering over time to a desirable silver gray color. Other woods like pressure treated and spruce tend to blacken and look rotted as they age. Riverside Fence only uses #1 grade cedar wood for all fences it installs.
Should I paint or stain my wood fence?
We recommend if you want to apply a protective finish to your fence to make sure the wood is dry. Using protective finish helps to minimize the effects of weathering and to maximize the lifespan of your fence.
Is aluminum fence expensive?
Most people are under the illusion that this fencing product is not affordable due to its beauty and "curb appeal". It is in fact very affordable when you weigh the benefits of this product versus other fencing materials. There is no painting, staining, warping, or maintenance necessary. It instantly increases the value of your property and decreases your headaches.
Is aluminum fencing sturdy?
Yes. It is important to match the correct grade and height of the fence with each fencing application. For example the residential grade is suitable for perimeter fence situations such as containment of children and pets, or residential pool settings. We highly recommend the commercial and industrial grade be used for settings, which entail security situations.
What is the best material for deer fencing?
Several materials may apply here, such as chain link and farm fence. However, for overall aesthetics, strength, durability, ease of installation and value, you cannot beat our deer fence made of polypropylene plastic.
Our deer fence provides a virtually invisible barrier, is very strong and impact-resistant steel mesh. It will not rust and will last for years.
It can be installed with posts, or attached to existing trees. It is transparent in wooded areas and does not detract from landscapes.
Our deer fencing has proven successful in protecting backyard gardens and plants, as well as multi-acre farms. Deer fencing also brings the added benefit of decreasing the risk of tick-borne Lyme disease.
Does Riverside Fence sell and install wrought iron fencing?
We do not sell wrought iron fencing. True wrought iron fencing is a dying art that is difficult to find and expensive to purchase. Most of the fence industry has made the transition to ornamental aluminum fencing which does not have the high costs of labor and material associated with true wrought iron. Aluminum fences do not have the maintenance costs of wrought iron fence as well.
INSTALLATION
What is scheduling like?
Our goal is to have your fence installed in 2 - 4 weeks for stocked items and 4 - 6 weeks on special orders. Our waiting list for installations will vary throughout the year. Of course, the summer months are the busiest therefore the wait could be a bit longer.
Factors such as weather can set back our schedule.
To make scheduling as fair as possible for all our customers, we schedule jobs on a first-come first-served basis. We want our customers to be happy with the fence they receive, and therefore refuse to rush through any job.
We survive on word of mouth advertising, and therefore our customers' happiness is of the utmost importance. Therefore we highly recommend that everyone plan ahead for that Memorial Day Party or any other upcoming plans. The more notice you give us, the easier it is for us to accommodate your plans. The best time of year to purchase a fence or deck with little wait is in the winter months. Riverside Fence has the equipment to allow us to work year around, and the wait will be shorter for the customer. But rest assured that we will complete your job on a timely basis.
Can I have an exact installation date?
We do the best we can to accommodate all of our customers. However, it is nearly impossible for us to give an exact installation date. There are so many factors that come into play that are behind the scenes of your individual installation. First and foremost, if it's raining we cannot run a lot of our equipment due to electrical cords, etc. If we are in a drought, the ground is extremely hard, and therefore the digging of the holes is much slower. We usually have an idea of an exact date a week ahead of your installation. As your date gets closer our office will call a day or two before to reconfirm the date to make sure it is OK with you. If you think you may have a conflict with a vacation or anything else that you foresee please let us know. We will make sure to work the schedule date around your availability.
Is it necessary for me to be home during the construction of my fence?
It would be helpful but not necessary for you to be home when we arrive on the first day of installation to review with you the placement of your new fence. We are insured and will treat your property with respect. We will need access to water, and outside electrical outlets, which shouldn't require the homeowner to be present. However, if you have pets, arrangements must be made to keep them on a leash or indoors during construction.
How long will it take to build my fence?
Normally residential jobs can will anywhere from 2-4 days to complete. Installations can be longer based on job size and terrain.
What do I need to know about local zoning and fence codes?
Building codes for fences and pools vary by state, county, city, and even homeowner's association. You should contact your applicable county zoning department to determine your exact requirements. Codes may determine placement, height, materials, etc.
Do I need a permit for my fence project?
All city and township ordinances vary. It is advisable to contact your local building department to find out the fence requirements.
Do I need a survey?
Surveys define exactly where your property line is, and eliminate any guesswork from the layout of your fence project. We do not locate property lines.
Will you clear the fence lines of brush and other obstructions?
The price on your proposal does not reflect clearing of fence lines. Any bushes, trees and other obstructions in the fence line are the responsibility of the customer to clear.
Do you remove my old fence?
Yes. Riverside Fence will remove and dispose of your old fence and posts.
Does Riverside Fence use concrete when setting posts?
Yes. All of our fences are set in concrete but only around the sides of the post not underneath where water can gather. The hole is dug two and a half feet deep (this is below the freeze line) and "belled" out at the bottom, and the top will be back-filled with dirt. The dirt will prevent the concrete from freezing, and the "bell" will prevent the post from being heaved out of the ground. Proper installation of posts is critical to a fence installation. If concrete is not used or if it is used incorrectly the fence will never hold up. We do not use concrete on our split rail. Split rail fences are open so that there is little risk of it being blown over, etc.
What happens if one of your crew members gets injured on my property during the construction of the fence?
Riverside Fence is fully insured for both liability and workers' compensation. Should a worker become injured, we have taken the necessary precautions to prevent the homeowner from any liability.
Why does my fence have gaps at the bottom?
Our installers are trained to leave the top of the fence as straight as possible unless otherwise instructed. If the terrain on which the fence is installed is not perfectly level, this may cause some areas at the bottom to have a gap.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Yes. You can call our office and request an application for financing. Credit can typically be approved on the same day. Please note that if you wish to finance you should let our salesperson know before he prepares your estimate.
